Chattanooga author uses science to understand God’s word
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - You’ve heard the concept of “use it or lose it,” but have you thought about what that means when it comes to your faith?
Timothy Jennings wrote, “God-Shaped Brain.” In it he talks about reading God’s word, but also really digging into what it means and growing your knowledge of God by meditation.
“Over the years I began realizing many people have faith have belief, but they don’t have a way of making it sensible, reasonable, and applicable to modern science... and so I wanted to bridge that gap and maybe give them some answers that were sensible,” he said he hopes his findings help people strengthen their faith. “If you look at the bible there’s a lot of things that are written contemporaneously to the people and setting of the time which we are very disconnected to. If you go to a big city we are not going to have much of an understanding of what shepherds do. So the actual day-to-day operations Much of scripture is written metaphorically or symbolically and to be able to understand what those mean and takes a little bit of time and it takes the cognitive ability of abstract thinking.”
