KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knox County Pre-Kindergarten class did something not many people can say they’ve done. The students at Belle Morris Elementary School wrote, illustrated and published a book titled “Pre-K’s Favorite Animals.”

The 14 students each chose their favorite animal and spent about a month and a half working on drawing and writing about it.

“I like to write books because the big kids writed books,” said BJ Strowder, a Pre-K student who wrote about killer whales.

Christine Davis said she got the idea when Student Treasures Publishing emailed her asking if students would like to write a book that has something to do with Earth Day. That’s when she got the idea for them to weave in animals.

“They worked so hard, so diligently, and at first we had some I can’ts, I don’t know how to do this, I don’t know what it looks like, and then as we practiced and kept going over our animals and what our favorite animal was they got more comfortable with it and it turned out really great.”

“The book was so much fun. I get to draw the lady bug,” said Makayla Yarbrough, a Pre-K student.

Parents purchased the book so each student received a copy.
