Writers Block: Author uses experience with dementia to help others
This week’s Writers Block author has decades of experience helping patients and their families living with dementia.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - World Alzheimer’s Day is on September 21. It’s a disease that affects millions of Americans every year.
This week’s Writers Block author has decades of experience helping patients and their families living with dementia.
Lisa Skinner is the author of “Truth, Lies and Alzheimer’s: It’s Secret Faces.” She walks readers through the ups and downs of the disease.
“I felt like if I didn’t write this book and share what I knew to help people it would be selfish of me because I knew people were struggling and I knew this information was hard to find. Not about the disease or the medical aspect of it, but the day-to-day things that come up that people have no clue are even part of the disease,” Skinner said.
She said after having several family members with dementia she learned that it looks different for everyone.
“There’s just so many layers involved in this disease and it really takes someone with specialized training to effectively address the day-to-day challenges,” Skinner concluded.
The book can be found on Amazon now.
