KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knox County Commission honored East Tennessee first responders who helped with COVID-19 efforts in New York and New Jersey.

11 first responders made the trip. They assisted with everything from behind the scenes work to directly helping patients on the front lines. The majority of those stayed for nearly two months. A few stayed even longer.

“We are proud every time we put on our uniforms in the morning. We brought our Rural Metro Knox County uniforms, and it definitely made us proud to represent the state the way we did,” said Kevin Bukstein, a paramedic for Rural Metro.

After working hundreds of calls each day, they said they’re ready to get back to work helping East Tennesseans.
