Ashley Bohle is a multimedia journalist who joined the WVLT news team in 2019. She comes to WVLT from a sister station WALB News 10 in Albany, Georgia, where she worked for two years reporting and filling in as an anchor and producer.
While living in Albany she interviewed the two gubernatorial candidates: Brian Kemp and Stacey Abrams. She covered hard news extensively especially shootings, fires and court cases. Ashley also kept families safe covering Tropical Storm Irma and Hurricane Michael--two events she will always remember. But seeing farmers build and then rebuild their crops following Hurricane Michael will always touch her heart. It's the rich depths of South Georgia's strong agricultural economy that opened her eyes to another, softer, side of reporting. One Ashley hopes to expand upon at WVLT by "making a difference," and telling character-driven stories.
Her passion for news began at a young age when she watched the evening network news on NBC with Tom Brokaw. Each night she would listen and watch him anchor the newscasts. She distinctly remembers being enthralled by the harrowing reports on 9/11. She knew she wanted to be a storyteller like her childhood idol. A dream come true when she had the opportunity to intern at NBC Nightly News World Headquarters in New York. She expanded her roots to live outside of North Carolina for the first time in her life.
Born and raised in Winston-Salem, N.C., she graduated from Elon University where she had opportunities to cover presidential candidates' rallies before the Iowa Caucuses and the 50th annual voting rights march in Selma, AL. She was honored to serve as the news director of Elon Local News, the student-led news organization that had two half-hour weekly live broadcasts. That year she and her colleagues were awarded best student newscast from the Broadcast Educator's Association for one of their shows. While in college she also completed an internship with WXII-12 News, her hometown news station she grew up watching every evening with her parents.
In her spare time, Ashley enjoys exploring East Tennessee and donating blood to The American Red Cross.
Ashley is looking to meet people across East Tennessee. If you have a story idea, she would love to hear from you.
