Our Robert Grant visited Christenberry Elementary Community School to watch 21 preschoolers graduate from Great Schools Partnership's Parents as Teachers program on June 1.
This ceremony was to celebrate a milestone in these young kids' lives.
"He's not a baby anymore. That's what it means today.", said Lakewsha Wallace, mother of two graduating preschoolers.
The Parents as Teachers program allows for students to begin preparing for Kindergarten at a young age in the comfort of their own home, alongside their parents. Through the program, parents are paired up with a certified educator who focuses on development of the child to prepare them for grade school.
"Connection and bonding parents and children is stronger. by the time they go to school they are better prepared and self confident.", said Simonette Cherpanov an educator of the program.
The program reported working with almost 300 preschoolers in Knox County, making over 2,060 home visits this year.
