Tell us PAWS for Kids Program:
This program matches dogs from rescue programs with adopted children served by Harmony.
A comfort dog can be a source of support for both the child and the family during the difficulty of bonding and forming relationships after experiencing traumatic life experiences. Neuroscience research shows:
1. Children who are emotionally attached to their pets learn trust and build healthy relationships
2. Everyday activities with pets are calming and help organize and regulate children's brains
3. Animals provide safe, nonjudgmental and nonthreatening companionship which provides a sense of security in children
4. The unconditional love of a dog can help a child begin healing from the trauma abuse and neglect, buffer the effects of stress and promote emotional attachment
