Tenn. mother charged in death of three-year-old

MADISON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Madison County woman has been charged with murder following the death of her three-year-old child.

The child died last week at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, and now the mother, 27-year-old Chasity Yancey, faces charges of first degree murder in perpetration of aggravated child abuse or neglect.

According to WBBJ, Yancey was also charged with aggravated child abuse or neglect after investigators say her other child, a four-year-old daughter, was taken to LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis for treatment of malnutrition.

Officials said in a news release on Tuesday that Yancey put her two children in a locked and barricaded room in an attempt to deprive them of food and water.

On Oct. 30, deputies responded to a home on Cane Creek Road after a report of an unresponsive three-year-old. EMS was performing CPR on the child when deputies arrived.

Upon further investigation, deputies found the four-year-old girl, who remains at the hospital.

Officials believe the situation was going on for a year.

Two other children, aged seven and two, were also living in the home and have been staying with family.
