Oak Ridge man convicted for attempted murder of girlfriend

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- An Oak Ridge man has been convicted for the 2018 attempted murder of his girlfriend, according to a release from District Attorney General Dave Clark's Office.

McKinley Earl McGee was convicted of attempted second degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with serious bodily injury for an incident that happened on Jan 12, 2018.

According to the release from the DA's office, McGee stabbed his girlfriend on Utica Circle. The release said she received life-saving medical care and emergency surgery at the University of Tennessee Medical Center; but she recovered and was present at the trial which began on July 9, 2019.

The DA said, at the time of the trial, McGee was out on bond; following the jury's guilty verdict, he was immediately taken into custody and is being held at the Anderson County Detention Facility.

The release said McGee will be sentenced on September 9.
