ROANE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A former Roane County Community College officer has been charged with statutory rape.

Justin Willoughby, 27, was charged with two counts of statutory rape by an authority figure, according to a release from the Campbell County Sheriff's Office.

Roane State Community College Director of Public Safety and Police Chief William Kain confirmed that Willoughby had been an officer and worked at the Campbell County college campus. He told WVLT News that when the allegations against Willoughby were made to local authorities, the deputy was placed on administrative leave and removed from campus. Kain said Willoughby later resigned.

"The allegation is deeply troubling, and we take it very seriously," Kain said in a statement.

"The college's police department and administration have worked with local law enforcement to provide any assistance they have needed throughout their investigation," Kain added.

The release from the Campbell County Sheriff's Office said Willoughby was taken into custody on June 11 and was released the same day.
