Oak Ridge kid heading to Pokemon World Championships

Oak Ridge, Tenn. (WVLT)-- Jackson Sutton is eight years old, but his age hasn't stopped him from being a fierce competitor in the gaming world. Jackson has qualified for the Pokemon World Championships after playing the game less than a year.

His dad, Ryan Sutton, says it started Jackson's teacher was handing out Pokemon cards for incentive for good behavior back in August.

"He was really 'I wanna learn how to play this'. And we went to Walmart, bought some starters and started to play. All of a sudden, he was beating me every single time we played. It was crazy."

He is one of only 100 in the world in the junior division eligible. If he wins, Jackson could receive a $25,000 scholarship. The championship will be held in D.C. August 16 through August 18. Good luck, Jackson!
