After red carpet premiere, 'The Last Movie Star' opens in Knoxville Friday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- After a red carpet premiere featuring Burt Reynolds and other stars, production company A24 announced 'The Last Movie Star' would be opening in Knoxville on Friday, April 13.

The movie will be screened exclusively at AMC Classic Knoxville 16 theater, located at 200 N. Peters Road in Knoxville.

The movie was largely filmed in Knoxville and features a star-studded cast, including Burt Reynolds, Chevy Chase and Ariel Winter.

Filming wrapped in July 2016, and the movie's director Adam Rifkin told Local 8 News back then he hoped the movie would be ready to be released by the end of that year.

The movie first premiered at the 16th annual Tribeca Film Festival on April 22, 2017. The red carpet event took place at the Tennessee Theatre on March 29.

The movie's owner, A24 Films, described the film as a man who was at one time the biggest star in Hollywood is now in his 80s. He's traveling to Nashville to accept a lifetime achievement award, and he invites an old friend along for the ride. A24 said the trip sends them on a "hilarious fish-out-of-water adventure" and a journey into his past.
