Auburn Tigers sports announcer and his wife killed in crash

The Voice of the Auburn Tigers has gone silent with the passing of Rod Bramblett.

AUBURN, Ala. (WJHL) -- Auburn Tigers sports announcer Rod Bramblett and his wife passed away after a car accident on Saturday night.

Auburn University confirmed that the couple had been involved in a serious car accident around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday.

"Rod Bramblett, the Voice of the Auburn Tigers, and his wife, Paula, were involved in a serious car accident early Saturday evening in Auburn. We at the Auburn Family to keep the Bramblett family in your thoughts and prayers," read the post on Auburn Tigers, the official page of AU Athletics.

It was confirmed by 12:15 Sunday morning that Rod and his wife Paula died due to injuries sustained during the vehicle crash the night before.

A Jeep Cherokee being driven by a 16-year-old male struck the rear end of a Toyota Highlander being driven by the Bramblett couple around 6 p.m. Saturday night.

Both Rod and Paula were transported to EAMC by ambulance with serious injuries. Rod was transported to UAB Hospital where he later died due to his injuries. Both Rod and Paula passed away at the hospital.

"The fatality accident victims in Saturday's two vehicle collision in Auburn were 53-year-old Rod Bramblett and his wife, 52-year-old Paula Bramblett, of Auburn. Paula Bramblett died at 7:50 PM in the emergency room of East Alabama Medical Center from multiple internal injuries and Rod Bramblett, known as the "Voice of the Auburn Tigers", died at UAB Hospital in Birmingham from a severe closed head injury," said Coroner Bill Harris.
