BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Blount County Sheriff's Office announced Monday the suspect in an officer involved shooting from July 18 is in custody.

TBI identified the man involved in the shooting as Wendell Wilson. He was released from UT Medical Center and into police custody July 22.

Wilson is currently being held on $300,00 bond. He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated domestic assault, and two counts of violation of probation for previous charges of DUI and domestic assault.

Investigators said the shooting happened at around 6:30 p.m. on July 18 at a place in the 2000 block of Montvale Road.

Investigators said they responded to the home on a domestic disturbance call between a husband and wife. When deputies arrived and tried to make contact with the suspect, they said a man opened the door and began to raise a rifle at a deputy. TBI said Wilson repeatedly ignored the officers commands to drop his weapon.

BCSO said the deputy fired his service weapon and struck the man in the hand.

The man was transported to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The deputy was not injured and has been put on administrative leave with pay.

BCSO said the wife was not injured and the investigation is ongoing. TBI will be investigating the shooting, and the sheriff's office said they will be investigating the domestic assault.
