LOUISVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Blount County Sheriff's Office said a 9-year-old boy was shot in the head Tuesday night.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office said the 9 year old boy is recovering at UT Medical Center. There will be no charges.
It happened at Riverside Manor Apartments in Louisville.

Officials said the shooting was an accidental discharge of a weapon and that the boy's mom was handling the gun and it went off by accident.

Investigators said the mom was on the second floor of the apartment and the round traveled through the floor and subfloor to the first floor. That's when the bullet struck the boy on the forehead. Marian O'Briant, with the Blount County Sheriff's Office says it was a freak accident and that the boy is ok.

A video was shared by a neighbor showing the boy walking on his own towards a stretcher and holding his hand to his head while moving towards an ambulance.

Neighbors told a Local 8 News crew on scene the shooting was accidental.
