BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - More than 200 visitors attended The United Veterans of Blount County annual memorial day program Saturday where they heard from different war veterans.
Blount County also remembered one of east Tennessee's own Lance Corporal Oscar Robert Parrott, who served in the Marine Corps and died May 4th, 1967. The county dedicated a bridge to Parrott that runs over Lackey Creek.
This dedication serves as a reminder, what the weekend is truly about.
"It's not just about cookouts and going on a lake, which is fun to, but it's about remembering those that gave their lives for our freedom," Nathan Weinbaum, Blount County Director of Veterans Affairs, said.
The memorial sign will be put up along Midsettlements and Scarlett Oaks Road.
Lance Corporal Parrott, is buried in the Knoxville National Cemetery.
