Three life changing words are, you have cancer.

"I remember thinking 'Wow that's hard to believe'," said Nina Howell, Breast Connect Founder.

Nina Howell was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, but she's now a survivor.

"It takes a while to sink in and it's really scary," said Howell.

During her journey, she met with other patients to talk about their fears and try to cope with this troubling disease.

"We thought maybe we should do something more about this, maybe getting together isn't good enough," said Howell. "One thing we realized through these meetings is that breast cancer is complicated."

Howell wanted to make a stronger difference in people's lives, so they don't have to feel alone.

"When I went through it, I went through it alone," said Howell. "When most of us went through it five or six years ago, we went through it alone, but with Breast Connect I can safely say you wont go through it alone, you'll have a dozen women at your finger tips," said Howell.

Breast Connect offers info, resources, and even matches you with a buddy who went through or is going to go through the same surgery.

"If you're a triple negative young single mom with two young children, we can find you another single mom with two young children that just went through the chemo and mastectomy that you're planning on having," said Howell.

The Breast Connect Knoxville Facebook page is a place where you can ask anything, no appointment needed.

"It's beautiful to watch how many women want to help other women and that's really what it's all about," said Howell.
