(WVLT) --- Hawkins County emergency crews responded to a bus stranded in flood waters on Spruce Pine Road on Thursday morning.

The bus driver was rescued from the stranded vehicle located near Mitchell Road and assisted to dry ground.

No children were on the bus at the time of the incident, according to the Hawkins County Rescue Squad.

The flash floods were caused by heavy rain that moved quickly into East Tennessee on Wednesday night. A flood warning was extended into late morning on Thursday for much of Northeast Tennessee.

The area received three inches of rain in a short amount of time that brought flash flooding to Oak Ridge, Clinton, Maynardville and Oliver Springs, among others.
