10-year-old girl found safe, vehicle located after inaccurate witness statement

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Police Department has issued an Emergency Alert after a car was stolen with a child inside from the Wal-Mart located at Chapman Highway on Saturday afternoon.

UPDATE:

The girl was safely located inside the car in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart.

On Saturday morning, KPD responded to a call at Wal-mart located at Chapman Highway. The caller reported that her car that contained her 10-year-old daughter was stolen.

According to the mother, a witness on the scene stated that a male entered the vehicle and drove off with the child screaming.

KPD reported that during the investigation it was revealed that the mother had left the Walmart and parked her car at another nearby store and forgot she had moved it. The statement from the witness was inaccurate.

Both the child and the car were safely located by officers.

The car is a 2018 Gray Subaru Forrester with license plate no. 5L3-7A3 and a "Soccer Mom" bumper sticker.

A 10-year-old female with blonde hair and a gray space shirt was inside the car when it was stolen.

The suspect is described as a white male.
