Childhelp Tennessee, a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect, is anticipating more than 400 supporters to attend its 24th Annual Oysterfest. The fundraising event will be held at the World’s Fair Park Amphitheater on Saturday, June 8 at 6 p.m.

“We are excited to bring this Knoxville tradition to a new venue at the World’s Fair Park Amphitheater,” said Teresa Goddard Rocco, director of program advancement for Childhelp Tennessee. “The event showcases the best of East Tennessee – great food, live entertainment, and the beautiful venue near downtown – all wrapped up in a top-notch community event that solely benefits local children affected by sexual or physical abuse.”

According to Rocco, Oysterfest has raised more than $1,000,000 over the years to help offset the operating budget of the organization’s Child Advocacy Center and Foster Care programs through ticket sales, donations and the silent auction.

In 2018, Childhelp Tennessee served more than 1,400 who had become victims of neglect, sexual or severe physical abuse. “The Childhelp Children’s Advocacy Center for Knox County provides a child-friendly atmosphere for victims of abuse, while generating a seamless process for investigating the claims of abuse with the least amount of added trauma to the child.” said Rocco. “Monetary support from Oysterfest not only helps with the general operating costs, but it also helps ensure that we can keep a series of experts on staff –everyone from forensic investigators to pediatric physicians to help administer medical exams.”

“With almost five American children dying each day as a result of child abuse, our work is never done.” said Rocco, “We continue to work tirelessly to help children who have been abused and do everything we can to prevent children from being in danger. Participation and support of Oysterfest will directly help the children who need our services so desperately.”
