A California community showed its support for a teacher who was arrested after video showed him punching a student who had allegedly called him multiple racial slurs.
CBS 46 reported that a GoFundMe started for 64-year-old Marston Riley exceeded its $50,000 goal in less than two days.
The incident was captured on video in a room full of band students.
"All the racial slurs of that kid. That kid was just being very disrespectful," said a Maywood Academy student.
Marston, a music teacher at the academy, has been there for seven years and is reportedly well-respected by teachers and students.
"He's really calm and he really respects his students and he cares about his students a lot," another student said.
Marston was released from jail and awaits a court date sometime in November.
