NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT/WTVF) -- A Confederate monument located in Nashville's Centennial Park was vandalized, CBS affiliate WTVF reported.

The statement "They Were Racists" was found painted on a plaque that featured the names of 540 members of the Frank Cheatham Bivouac, a temporary camp formed by the Association of Confederate Soldiers Tennessee Division in the early 1800's. WTVF reported that the plaque was also doused in red paint.

WTVF reported that it was unclear when the monument would be cleaned or how long the process would take.

Metro police were reviewing surveillance video in the park.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Midtown police precinct at (615) 880-1411.
