KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Tennessee Department of Children's Services (TDCS) and the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS) told WVLT News they were investigating a local daycare.
According to a spokesperson for TDHS, the agency received a supervision complaint at Cozy Kids on Maryville Pike. On February 8, 2019, TDHS placed an educator "under a safety plan" prohibiting the educator from being alone with children in classrooms.
On Monday, TDHS reported that the complaint, which was received on Thursday, was about "inappropriate touching" between two of the kids at the daycare.
The safety plan also required all staff at Cozy Kids on Maryville Pike to undergo safety training in February. According to TDHS, safety plans are issued to an agency when TDCS or law enforcement investigate.
The educator in question was reportedly fired, according to TDHS.
TDCS confirmed that its department was investigating the daycare as well, but could not say what prompted its investigation.
The Tennessee Secretary of State's Division of Business Services listed April Bean as the registered agent of Cozy Kids LLC. WVLT News left messages with April Bean after business hours on Friday, February 8, seeking comment about the investigation.
WVLT News requested reports filed with the Knox County Sheriff's Office against the daycare, but investigators said, WVLT News would have to get a court order in order to view the report. WVLT News is working with state officials to learn more about the details of their investigations.
The daycare, located at 3508 Maryville Pike, has faced multiple complaints since 2013, according to TDHS records.
In 2014, WVLT News reported on the arrest of Tina Atchley, a former employee of Cozy Kids. According to investigators, Atchley slapped an 8-month-old boy off a counter, causing him to fall on the floor and land on his head.
The boy was treated at East Tennessee Children's Hospital for multiple head injuries.
Atchley was immediately fired from the daycare.
