RICHLAND COUNTY, SC. (WVLT/WLTX) -- Deputies in South Carolina arrested a man they said broke his son's arm while trying to paddle him.
According to CBS affiliate WLTX, 32-year-old Antonio Singleton was charged with unlawful conduct to a child after investigators said they were called to a hospital on Sunday for an assault to a 12-year-old child.
The doctor told investigators that the boy had a fractured arm.
Deputies said information from the doctor led them to believe Singleton was trying to paddle his son, and the child reached around to cover himself. The paddle hit him in the arm.
According to WLTX, the injury happened on Saturday. The doctor told investigators the father noticed his son's arm swelling. He wrapped it up and gave the boy Tylenol. However, the father said when he got home from work the next day, the swelling hadn't gone down.
Deputies said the father appeared distraught and apologetic, and he said he would never hurt his children. The 12-year-old son and his other children were taken into the custody of Department of Social Services.
