According to the United States Geological Survey, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake was centered in the heart of Maryville and hit around 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 18.

The USGS's interactive earthquake map, showed the epicenter was near Lamar Alexander Parkway, near North Houston Street.

The depth was shallow which is why many people reported feeling rumblings caused by the relatively weak earthquake.

At least 38 people reported feeling the quake to the USGS.
