Police: One person dies in fire at apartment complex

The Harriman Police Chief, Randy Heidle, tells Local 8 News one person has died in a fire that sparked overnight Sunday.

Officials say crews from the Harriman Fire Department were sent to Oasis Apartments just after 2:20 a.m.

A release from the Harriman Fire Chief states fire fighters requested help from Rockwood and Kingston Fire Departments, the Roane County Rescue Squad, and state agencies to fight the multi-story structure fire.

We have learned that Oasis is an apartment building, laundry mat, barbershop, and convenience store.

A Rockwood firefighter says the building is a total loss.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Neighbors should expect the buildings to smolder for several days. The scene is hazardous, due to debris so please stay away from the site. Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Harriman Police Department at 865-882-3383." .

Donations are being accepted at Walnut Hill Baptist Church. They are looking for some furniture, clothing, and personal items for the families.
