Dolly Parton in Pigeon Forge to celebrate 31st season of Dollywood

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn (WVLT) -- Dolly Parton is in Pigeon Forge to celebrate the 31st season of her Dollywood theme park.

A media event is planned Thursday, which will go on without the new Lightening Rod roller coaster being open. Dollywood announced last week that the ride wouldn't be ready when the park opened in March.

"You know we got to make sure everything is perfect cause I don't want to get sued. 'Cause you know I need the money and you know why. It costs a lot of money to look this cheap, but seriously the safety of our guests is first and foremost," said Parton.

Parton says though, families will enjoy their time at Dollywood with the Festival of Nation which features two dozen different countries. Also she says the park underwent a face lift in the winter with new paint and walkways upgraded.

"Well we always get excited with anything new, this year we've got our new roller coaster which ain't quite ready. We Thought it was going to be. But we've got to get it just right. We can't afford to have anything not perfect," she said.

Dollywood has not said when the ride will open.

Parton is expected to announce on Thursday when her announced concert tour will stop in Pigeon Forge.

Parton says she plans to be back in May for the annual homecoming parade on the Parkway.
