East Tennessee design contest for Goodwill Vintage Fashion Show begins
There are six designers competing in one challenge to create the best look on the catwalk next month for the Goodwill Vintage Fashion Show. The designers can only use material they collect at Goodwill in a 20 minute dash-and-grab.
Each design tells a story of the fashion show's theme, "life in color," but each designer has their own story.
On a normal day, Kristina Walker is a poet, a singer, a dancer, a writer, a painter.
"I am a creater. I was born to be on this planet as a creater or an entertainer," she said.
And a designer.
"I hand-stitched my sister's wedding dress. From scratch," she laughed.
But all the creative disciplines Walker knows will be stitched together to make her a competitor.
Six designers with a passion for fashion had 20 minutes to grab whatever they need to create their own design. Nothing in the Goodwill store was off limits.
"They are taking items that they find in Goodwill and turning them into their own, new, unique designs," said Goodwill spokesperson Erin Rosolina.
Now that her material is in her home, Walker wants to channel her artsy past into chic couture, using loud prints and patterns ready to wow the runway.
As they say in fashion, "One day you're in, the next day you're out." On the day of this show, all Walker has to do is stand out.
"I am excited to see what the other five designers come up with and how mine stands up against theirs," said Walker.
A flare for design, a flair for the arts, all wrapped up in her own style.
The Goodwill Vintage Fashion Show is September 21 at 6 p.m. Tickets for the show are on sale
