Former Tellico Plains Police chief accused of using department funds to pay for sex

TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced a former chief of the Tellico Plains Police Department has been indicted and accused of misconduct after an investigation into missing funds.

According to TBI, an investigation was opened after approximately $840 went missing from the police department's drug enforcement fund.

Investigators said they learned that former Chief James Russell Parks Jr. was responsible for the missing funds.

Parks is accused of being involved in a sexual relationship with an informant who was paid out of the department's drug enforcement fund.

Parks was charged with one count of misconduct on Tuesday and booked into the Monroe County jail on a $6,000 bond.
