High school football player in Mississippi breaks neck in game, later dies

JACKSON, MS. (WVLT) -- A high school football player in Mississippi died a week after breaking his neck during a game.

According to WLOX, Jeremiah Williams broke his C1 and C4 vertebrae in a game against a rival team.

The coach, Sherrod Gideon, told news outlets that the junior defensive back was injured while making a tackle.

CPR was performed before Williams was airlifted to a local hospital.

Madison Central is set to honor Williams during Friday's game.
