13-year-old boy arrested in murder of Johnny Majors' great-niece
A 13-year-old boy was arrested in the fatal stabbing of Johnny Majors' great-niece, according to multiple reports.
City Corporation Counsel James E. Johnson says a 13-year-old was arrested on charges including felony murder.
Tessa Majors, an 18-year-old in her first year at Barnard College, was found unresponsive after being stabbed multiple times at Morningside Park in New York City on late Wednesday, Dec. 11.
According to New York media outlets, the 13-year-old was caught trespassing in a building on Thursday wearing clothes that matched the description of the suspect.
The boy confessed to investigators that he and two friends attempted to rob Majors and stabbed her, CBS New York reports.
At Friday’s hearing, a detective testified that the teen arrested said his friend slashed Majors during a robbery.
She was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
According to New York police, Majors had been stabbed repeatedly shortly before 7 p.m. Investigators believe it was the result of an attempted robbery. Police believe she made it a short distance before collapsing at a college security booth, but the guard was out making rounds at the time she got there.
Police are now looking for the two other suspects.
