KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knox County Sheriff's Office Vice Unit conducted an investigation of an illegal gambling establishment on Monday, January 9.
Upon arrival at the listed address, detectives found a poker table with multiple players, a dealer, chips and an active game of Omaha Hi-Lo.
After waving his rights the defendant, Jerry Vaughn McDowell, informed the detectives that he had organized the game by sending out texts to players. The event was held on McDowell's property and he charged players $100 to $200 to buy-in.
McDowell was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Promotion of Gambling and was transported to the Knox County Sheriff's Detention Facility.
Upon arrest the defendant had $3,141.00 in cash. All money and gambling equipment was seized and taken to the Knox County Sheriff's Office property unit.
A citation was not issued because the offence is a felony.
