KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A three-month-old infant was listed in serious condition following a violent attack by the child's father, investigators said.
According to a warrant, the child's father, 22-year-old Samuel Bates, admitted to police that he "grabbed the victim by the throat, violently shook the victim, obstructed the victim's airway and threw the victim on a bed, striking the victim's head against a headboard."
On October 24, the Knox County Sheriff's Office announced it arrested Bates, charging him with aggravated child abuse. At that time, the baby was in the intensive care unit.
On November 7, WVLT News learned the child was listed in serious condition at East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
The child's mother, Kristin Mills, posted on social media and said the baby was breathing on its own.
Bates was jailed on a $500,000 bond and remained behind bars as of November 7.
"Sheriff Spangler and KCSO Detectives ask that you keep the victim and family in your thoughts and prayers," the sheriff's office.
