Search called off at Fort Dickerson quarry

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Crews called off a search for a possible missing swimmer on Monday afternoon.

The Knoxville Volunteer Emergency Rescue Squad told WVLT investigators will wait for more details about the incident before they return to the water. Unless more concrete details are presented, they will not resume a search Tuesday, according to the rescue squad.

According to the Knoxville Fire Department, the call came in around 6 p.m. on Sunday night. Witnesses said they saw someone jump into the water and not resurface.

Later Sunday night, rescue officials deemed the effort a recovery, rather than a rescue.

WVLT reached out to the City of Knoxville to see if the quarry will reopen to the public on Tuesday, but did not receive a response.
