KPD arrests suspect in Michigan kidnapping

A 7-year-old boy who was kidnapped from Michigan was rescued by the Knoxville Police Department and the suspect was apprehended.

According to KPD, on Wednesday at about 5 p.m., officers received a tip about a child who had been kidnapped from Ann Arbor. Officials in Michigan believed the child was in the area of Central Avenue Pike.

KPD officers investigated the area and discovered the suspect's vehicle in the 5400 block of Central Avenue Pike and conducted a traffic stop.

Officials found the 7-year-old boy inside the car and arrested the suspect.

The suspect, identified as Connie Franzel, is the child's adopted mother.

Franzel was charged with kidnapping and fugitive from justice.

Tennessee DCS is currently coordinating with Michigan DCS on returning the child to his proper guardian. Police say the 7-year-old boy was unharmed.

Franzel will be extradited back to Michigan.
