KPD: Three-car crash kills one, investigation continues

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) --- The Knoxville Police Department responded to the scene of a fatal a crash on Ashville Highway Monday afternoon.

KPD reported officers responded to a three-car involved crash at the intersection of Ashville Highway and Gov. John Sevier Highway at 12:36 p.m. The passenger from one vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police a Kia minivan was traveling westbound on Asheville Highway when when the vehicle attempted to turn south onto Gov. John Sevier Highway. The driver then collided at the intersection with a Jeep traveling eastbound.

After the initial collision, police say the minivan then struck a Chevrolet truck that was attempting to turn east on Asheville Highway.

The front seat passenger of the Kia was pronounced dead on the scene. KPD reports all other occupants from the involved vehicles had minor injuries.

The name of the victim will not be released until the family has been notified.

KDP says the investigation is ongoing by Fatal Accident Investigators.
