Missing elderly Knoxville man and his dog found safe

Knoxville police said a man who went missing from West Town Mall Tuesday afternoon has been found safe.
KPD said 78-year-old Ervin Miller was found in downtown Knoxville by the public building authority after he was last seen at the West Town Mall.
"They just found papaw and are taking him to the hospital to get checked out," said his granddaughter, Diana Thomas just after 7 a.m. on Wednesday. "He is ok but very confused. Found him on Gay Street, he had been close to Herriman and back. Thank you everyone for sharing, messaging, searching and giving us leads. He was found quicker because of it. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you."
Police said Miller suffers from dementia and had a small dog in the vehicle with him.
KPD said the dog was with him and was also found safe.
