Local senior agencies offer seminar to address changes in Social Security
In March, the Knoxville-Knox County CAC Office on Aging is sponsoring a Social Security seminar along with several other local senior agencies.
On March 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., the agencies will host a dinner and wine workshop at Northshore Senior Living.
The event will feature Heather Majka with the Senior Financial Group. She is Tennessee's only certified Social Security planning strategist. With her will be Peggy Ransom, manager of the Office of Aging's Affordable Medicine Options for Seniors service.
Majka will cover a variety of topics in relation to Social Security including the most important things to know and how to maximize benefits. She will also take questions from the audience.
“Most people have no idea there are hundreds of ways to file for Social Security,” said Majka. “We’ll help folks understand how they can minimize their tax obligations or liability, which is especially important to Baby Boomers, who could be leaving thousands of dollars on the table without realizing it.”
The event is open to all ages and will not focus specifically on Baby Boomers.
Being educated on Social Security is crucial. “Understanding Social Security and how it affects you, then making it work for you can be one of the most confusing times of your life, making it critical to have expert advice,” said Bob Thomas, Knox County Commissioner.
f you are interested in attending this complimentary event, you must RSVP by calling Information and Referral at the Office on Aging - (865) 546-6262 before Monday, March 20.
Another seminar discussing this topic will be held on June 27. More details on that meeting will be given closer to the date.
