Two dogs die in Union Co. sinkhole

UNION COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knox County Rescue Squad was sent out to assist Union County crews with a dog rescue.

According to a tweet from the rescue squad, the KVERS Cave/Vertical team was asked by the sheriff's office to help rescue two dogs stuck in "a deep sinkhole."

Union County dispatch said a man had been hunting on Wednesday night with two dogs when they fell into a hole.

The man called for help early Thursday morning and crews have been out near where the incident occurred, at Ellison Road and Braden Chapel Road, since then.

At about 3:45 p.m., dispatch confirmed that, despite the rescue attempt, both dogs died.
