KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Sacred Heart Cathedral held services for Palm Sunday this year on April 14.

Palm Sunday is one of many scheduled services during Sacred Heart's 2019 Holy Week. The Palm Sunday service was held at 9 a.m, 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The sacred day is symbolized with palms. As the story goes, palms were laid before Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem.

The week continues with Passover on Friday, Holy Saturday Night, and Easter Sunday.

"For us, this week on Tuesday night we have a very special Mass here which includes all the different oils that we use for our sacraments, and Priests will re-new their vows," Bishop Richard Stika said. "Then Thursday we commemorate the Lord's Supper which is the beginning of the Eucharist for us."

Other special services for Holy Week include Ecumenical Service on the 7 Last Words of Jesus on Good Friday and the Blessing of Easter Baskets on Saturday.

"In the whole Diocese of Knoxville, there is about 250 people, so it's a great celebration," said Stika.

The Scared Heart Cathedral off Northshore Drive in Knoxville is now a year old.
