KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start to summer, but it's also a time to reflect on those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to our country.

Our Justin McDuffie visited the local Veterans Cemetery located at Lyons View Pike to see how some young people are honoring our heroes in East Tennessee.

Canan Jackson along with other scouts and volunteers got up early on Saturday morning with a mission to honor.

"It can be upsetting knowing these people died for you and not even knowing you.", said Jackson.

Jackson and others went through the cemetery and placed flags on each headstone to make sure every person who served is remembered.

"Seeing all these tombstones out here just shows you that there's a lot of people who risk their lives and died for this country.", said Jackson.

Row by row, you can see the impact these brave men and women had in securing the freedom we enjoy to this day.
