Longest serving officer in Tennessee retires from KPD

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. The longest serving officer in the state of Tennessee was recognized on Friday.

Sergeant Wayne Bell, 85, served more than 53 years with the Knoxville Police Department.

Family and friends celebrated his legacy at KPD Headquarters.

"I'm just excited and elated and just can't believe, you know, the turnout," exclaimed Bell's son, Dan Bell, "It's just been phenomenal. We were expecting, you know, a couple people to show up and say thank you, but it's continuing people that's coming through the door."

A city judge read a proclamation from Madeline Rogero that commemorated the day as "Sergeant Wayne Bell Day."
