LONSDALE COMMUNITY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Lonsdale community has waited for years to see the results of hard work and dedication on its new playground, and this Wednesday they saw that work pay off.
School leaders and city officials reintroduced its playground during a ribbon cutting Wednesday afternoon. The kids got new equipment and more activity space that includes a soccer field and a basketball court.
The $60,000 project was spearheaded by the Great Schools Partnership who rounded up several Knoxville sponsors to make it happen. The kids said its worth every penny.
“I like it, and where we got the equipment, the climbing rock hill, everybody was on top of it like ants," said one student named Jose. "When we got the swirly thing, the swirly pool everybody was on it like they were spinning so fast people kept falling off, but it was funny."
Parents and students got a chance to vote on what they wanted.
It’s open to the public after school hours and gives students a safe place to play.
