COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) ---- The Cocke County Sheriff's Office says a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting around 12:19 Monday morning.

The Sheriff's Office said it originally responded to a call of a man walking in the middle of the road at the intersection of Highway 321 and Epley Road.

Investigators said the man, identified as Henry Gregory Stroud, 36, was holding a pistol and appeared to be agitated.

Officers made contact with Stroud and asked him to drop the weapon numerous times.

After asking him to put the pistol down several times, investigators say he did.

Shortly after doing so, Stroud picked up the gun and pointed it at officers, resulting in two Cocke County deputies firing shots, striking Stroud. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.

Officials consider the area an active situation, and have closed Highway 321 between Eppley Road and Cosby Cutoff Road.
