24 families displaced by Sevierville apartment fire
Officials said 24 families were displaced by a fire at a Sevierville apartment complex.
River Park apartments went up in flames just after noon on Friday, September 13.
Witnesses said at least one building was fully engulfed by fire.
Officials said no one was hurt in the blaze.
12 apartments sustained damage from the flames.
The Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department spotted the fire on their way back to their fire station from another call and were the first to arrive on the scene.
"We were coming off of another call and we happened to be in the area and JR saw the smoke and he advised me while I was driving." said volunteer firefighter Steven Newman. "We looked at the area and noticed that this was going to be a structure fire at this point."
The crew said their first priority was to get the residents to safety.
"You really don't think about anything else." said Newman. "You just want to get the people out of the harm and get the job accomplished . I do hate that people lost their belongings and living situations but no lives were lost "
The cause of the fire is still unclear at this time.
