SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- City of Sevierville Mayor Bryan Atchley passed away Sunday morning at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after a battle with cancer.
According to a release from the police department, Atchley was admitted to UT Medical Center on Monday, December 3. He was scheduled to receive chemo treatment, but his white blood cell count was extremely low.
Mayor Atchley passed away on Sunday, December 7 in the hospital.
The Sevierville Police Department asked for thoughts and prayers for the family of Mayor Atchley.
“The City of Sevierville has lost a true servant leader, who has left a legacy that will live for many, many years to come," said Sevierville Vice Mayor Robbie Fox. "Bryan will be sadly missed as our Mayor and as a close friend."
Atchley's contributions to the city of Sevierville include building the new city hall and police station, and bringing the Tennessee Smokies Double -A Minor League Baseball team to Sevierville.
Atchley was also named the 2013 Tennessee's Mayor of the Year and the 2017 Sevierville Citizen of the Year.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 15, from 2-6 p.m. at the Atchley Funeral Home in Sevierville. The funeral service will be on Sunday, December 16 at First Baptist Church in Sevierville.
