Multi-hour standoff with suspect holding hostages ends without injury

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A multi-hour standoff with a suspect holding two hostages in Knoxville ends without injury.

On Thursday around 11:48 p.m., officers saw a suspect with warrants on file for his arrest enter a home on Moses Avenue. Police say they knocked on the door where they spoke through the door with the female homeowner.

Police say the suspect refused to come out and the female started screaming for help and that the man wouldn't let her or her 3-year-old child leave the house and had barricaded the door.

The officers on scene called for negotiators and the Special Operation Squad members to come to the scene. Negotiators spoke with both the suspect and the woman. But after the suspect stopped communicating and refused to let the woman and her child leave, they made entry into the home around 4:33 a.m.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the woman and her child were rescued. No one was injured.

The suspect is Amari Beal and he has been charged with two counts of False Imprisonment. Warrants already on file for his arrest include: Aggravated Burglary
Two counts of Failure to Appear
Three counts of Violation of Probation
Possession of Schedule II Drugs form Washington County, TN
