Gay Street to close Sunday for new hotel coming to downtown

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Heading to downtown Knoxville Sunday? You might need to give yourself some extra time.

Gay Street will be shut down Sunday to make way for the crane that will replace the iconic "time and temp" sign on the roof of the Conley Building to make way for a roof top spa at the new Embassy Suites by Hilton Knoxville Downtown.

The hotel will be a 14-story, 176-room hotel set to open in Fall of 2019.

Along with the rooftop spa and pool, the hotel will include a rooftop lounge, a new location for the Knox Mason restaurant, and will offer K Brew coffee in the lobby.

The hotel will also offer a venue for weddings, business meetings, and other large gatherings for up to 180 guests.
