(CBS) -- Legendary singer Kate Smith's version of "God Bless America" will no longer be sung at New York's Yankee Stadium during the 7th inning stretch.
The decision was made after Smith was found to be tied to racially insensitive music like, "That's Why Darkies Were Born" a song recorded in 1931. The song contains objectionable and insensitive lyrics like, "Someone had to pick the cotton, Someone had to pick the corn, Someone had to slave and be able to sing, That's why darkies were born."
Now Yankee Stadium officials say they'll be playing just an instrumental version of the popular patriotic tune, after learning about Smith's other recordings.
The Yankee's started playing, "God Bless America" during its games after the 2001 Terror Attacks. Kate Smith's version is the most recognizable.
