Officers investigate East Knoxville road rage incident, shooting

Officers with the Knoxville Police Department are investigating a road rage shooting that happened in East Knoxville Tuesday morning.

Crews responded to 6805 Rutledge Pike near Rosewood Road at around 8:10 a.m. for reports of a shooting with a victim. The Knoxville Police Department called the incident a "road rage incident involving a shooting."

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a Chevrolet pickup and a gray Honda Odyssey van were traveling west on Rutledge Pike when they became involved in a road rage incident. The driver of the van stopped in the lane of traffic causing the driver of the pickup to take action to avoid a crash. According to Knoxville Police, when the driver of the truck got out of his vehicle, the driver of the Honda fired several gunshots hitting the victim multiple times in the leg.

The pickup driver identified as Charles Dunaway was taken to UT Medical Center to treat not life threatening injuries.

The Honda reportedly fled the scene. The driver of the Honda was described as a white male. Investigators say there was a woman in the front passenger seat and two children in the back of the van.
